Mira Murati, OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer, announced her departure after six and a half years, stating she wants to create "time and space for my own exploration" while ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
Her exit follows a tumultuous period in OpenAI's leadership, where she briefly served as interim CEO after the board ousted Sam Altman last November, highlighting ongoing instability within the company.
Murati's resignation is part of a broader trend of high-profile departures from OpenAI, with other key executives leaving around the same time, raising concerns about the company's future leadership and direction.
Meta unveiled Orion, its first fully functional augmented reality (AR) glasses prototype, during the Meta Connect 2024 event, showcasing advancements in holographic technology.
Mark Zuckerberg presented the glasses, emphasizing their potential to enhance user interaction with digital content in real-world environments.
The announcement marks a significant step for Meta in the AR space, as the company aims to compete with other tech giants in developing immersive augmented reality experiences.
Meta introduced Natural Voice Interactions at Meta Connect 2024, positioning it as a competitor to Google’s Gemini Live and OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighting its potential for more natural AI interactions compared to text.
The feature allows users to engage in conversation with AI without the need for text prompts, accommodating interruptions and corrections, and enabling users to choose from various celebrity voices, including John Cena and Awkwafina.
Zuckerberg announced that Natural Voice Interactions will roll out across Meta's major apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook, aiming to make Meta AI one of the most widely used AI assistants globally, with nearly 500 million monthly active users.
Google launched updated AI models, Gemini-1.5-Pro-002 and Gemini-1.5-Flash-002, featuring a 50% price reduction for Gemini 1.5 Pro, alongside improvements such as 2x faster output and 3x lower latency, making them ideal for high-demand tasks like code and multimodal processing.
The new models show significant performance enhancements, including a 20% improvement in math-related tasks and better visual understanding and code generation, while also streamlining access for developers through Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.
Google has incorporated developer feedback, reducing output length for faster responses and updating privacy filters to enhance flexibility, positioning the Gemini models as competitive tools in the AI landscape with ongoing enhancements like a chat-optimized version on the horizon.
Tokyo has launched an AI-powered dating app called Tokyo Enmusubi, aimed at matching individuals serious about marriage by assessing their values through a registration process that includes an online interview and verification of identity and income.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to address Japan's declining birthrate, providing support for singles and families from initial meetings to marriage and child-rearing, with the app available for those over 18 living in or commuting to Tokyo.
Users pay a registration fee of 11,000 yen ($77) for a two-year membership, during which the app's AI will suggest potential matches based on answers to 110 questions, while also allowing users to search for partners by specific traits.
